Greetings, and hope you’re having a relaxing weekend this start to June.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's (FDIC) is embracing policies that hurt consumers, especially low-income families, due to rising fees and bureaucracy. Sadly, a new investigation also exposed rampant FDIC workplace sexual and racial abuse. This spurred both liberal magazine New Republic and conservative U.S. senators like Tim Scott and John Kennedy to call for FDIC Chairman Martin Gruenberg to resign. As I wrote in Real Clear Policy, my Independent Women’s Forum colleagues and I agree. While Gruenberg says he’ll resign, he’s still digging in his heels—potentially for months, until a replacement is confirmed. He should leave today, and President Biden should keep his word to fire toxic leaders “On the spot. No ifs or buts.”
I joined Dr. Phil Primetime to discuss breaking generational trauma and achieving social mobility. Dr. Phil highlighted my new memoir, Motorhome Prophecies, and I shared with him about my childhood, partially living in a shed with no furnace (in winters average in the 30s), indoor walls, or a functioning toilet, crammed with 10 people. You can watch the exchange here.
Research overwhelmingly demonstrates faith and religious community play crucial roles in promoting mental well-being, significantly reducing suicide, depression and addiction. However, it's concerning that 61% of therapists identify as atheist or agnostic-negatively impacting patient care. Integrating spirituality into therapy significantly enhances mental health outcomes. I delved into this topic further in my article for Fox News during Mental Health Awareness Month.
I also joined The Megyn Kelly Show, discussing my book but also delving into the deeper forces shaping our society today, many which were forged by the cultural upheaval of the 1960s. Watch the full interview here:
Jan Jekielek, host of American Thought Leaders at Epoch TV also shared my story amidst rising suicides and despair, especially among today's youth. But there is a path to resilience, one I have traveled. Watch the interview here:
Thank you for supporting our movement to strengthen mental health, especially among young people. I hope you’ll get your copy of Motorhome Prophecies and leave us a 5-star review on Amazon and Goodreads. Join us on the book tour and stay connected! Next stop: Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., on June 12, when we discuss The Bible + Mental Health with experts from Harvard Medical School, Baylor College of Medicine, Catholic University, Liberty University, and more.
Wishing you a wonderful summer month this June.
With gratitude,
Carrie
