Pilots shout “Mayday” while facing crisis. This May Day our public schools are in crisis, with COVID-related learning loss hitting poor students (particularly students of color) hardest. Private, parochial and public charter schools fared better, supporting the case I shared during a school choice and reform rally with Herzog Foundation in Loudoun County, Virginia—epicenter for parental rights during the shockwave 2021 Virginia governor election. I talked about my experience as a child in two failed, inner-city (with majority minority student bodies) schools, run by liberal ideology, that wouldn’t let us escape to better-performing schools. Former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg just weighed in on school choice with an oped: “The White House must end the shameful federal attack on charter schools.”
Also in the speaking arena, I shared with undergrad and graduate students at Harvard University’s Institute Of Politics my optimism for conservatives heading into November’s elections. At the Museum Of The Bible, alongside black and Latino spiritual leaders, I discussed empowering students in our public schools rather than discouraging them with CRT and other divisiveness.
In the business realm, it would seem strange that energy companies owned by the Russian government receive higher marks than U.S. energy firms for corporate social responsibility known as ESG. But that’s the case with a major bond rating agency, S&P. Good news is people, including in my home state of Utah, are pushing back on this partisan ESG trend, as I detailed for The New York Post. For George Mason University’s Discourse magazine, I interviewed a former CTO for the Federal Trade Commission about preserving free cryptocurrency markets.
Also in media, I joined Fox News primetime programming during Sean Hannity’s show to discuss inflation and the Biden White House. The Bongino Report, founded by Fox News host Dan Bongino, featured my Independent Women’s Voice blog on a shocking Harvard University poll about the Hunter Biden laptop scandal showing “The laptop is seen as genuine (58%), the majority thinks Biden was part of Hunter’s business interests (58%) and that Hunter sold influence and access to Joe Biden (60%). If these are found to be true, 67% believe they are an impeachable offense for Biden.”
For Newsmax Magazine, I wrote on illegal immigration’s harm to black Americans’ economic prospects and physical security. I also discussed faith in public life on the nationally-syndicated PBS talk show “To The Contrary.”
On social media, I enjoyed my Gettr Live conversation with Amala Ekpunobi. She's got an incredible journey from leftist, BLM-sympathizer to a conservative, PragerU host.
I’m proud of my brother, Sam, a U.S. Army Captain, who spearheaded a project to fill a big moving truck with medical supplies (working with an international charity) to ship to Poland. We spent a Saturday morning in April collecting and packing these donations, which we hope will alleviate some part of this human tragedy. We of course continue to pray for peace in Ukraine.
Wishing a healthy and productive May for you and yours.
Cheers,
Carrie
