Happy April, and hope you’re enjoying a beautiful spring! This year’s peak cherry blossoms in D.C. did not disappoint!
For the New York Post, I interviewed House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy and Utah Office of Energy Development Director Greg Todd. They all shared frustrations with President Biden’s claims that he wants America to lead in “clean energy” production. Yet Biden’s blocking American producers from developing the critical, rare-earth minerals to make it happen.
The federal government owns huge chunks of America’s West, home to critical minerals like lithium essential to technologies like electric-vehicle batteries — yet Biden blocks their development beneath federal lands.
China dominates, with around 80% of the market for mining these minerals, and undermines human rights to do so, through child and slave labor.
Scalise co-sponsored HR 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, which passed the House this week and aims to revive America’s energy producers, in part through permitting reform for critical minerals. My hope is Biden and his Senate Democrat colleagues step up and support this effort.
I joined Fox Business to discuss my Post article.
Fox News covered my CNN debate over critical race theory in schools. It included conversation about Gov. Ron DeSantis’ efforts in Florida to ensure public universities protect Constitutional safeguards for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Dream that all people are judged by their character and not skin color. Florida requires teaching African-American history in schools, which I applaud, though it’s stopping the forcing of ideologically-driven, partisan narratives on children, using taxpayer money.
Co-panelists and I joined Gov. DeSantis in Palm Beach, Florida to discuss this topic of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). I wrote about the panel for the New York Post.
I discussed these DEI ideas further with USA Today’s Ingrid Jacques and on PBS’ “To The Contrary” program.
Americans today — especially young people — believe patriotism, working hard, building a family and community involvement are far less important than in eras past, a Wall Street Journal and University of Chicago National Opinion Research Center poll just found. I shared my thoughts on why I think this is happening and how we might reverse these trends.
Speaker McCarthy’s office invited me to join a bill signing of a strongly bipartisan bill that protects D.C. residents by overriding a D.C. city council plan to weaken protections against crime.
Wishing a happy Passover and Easter to those celebrating, and peace/good harmony to all this April and beyond.
cheers,
Carrie
