Congressional Testimony: Exposing Censorship of Small Businesses
Celebrating Freedoms Wrought by Independence Day
Greetings, and happy Independence Day!
In my testimony last week before the U.S. House Committee on Small Business, I spoke alongside Jenin Younes of the New Civil Liberties Alliance and Benjamin Weingarten of RealClear Investigations. We addressed the harmful effects of government interference and Big Tech censorship on American small businesses. Among other issues, I discussed how actions by the Federal Trade Commission under Chairwoman Lina Khan hinder authors' ability to sell books at competitive prices and obstruct small businesses from thriving in digital marketplaces. In my Wall Street Journal letter, I wrote on lack of religious representation at Harvard. Universities, once bastions of intellectual exploration, should be robust marketplaces of ideas. Respecting a "rich tapestry of beliefs," as former Harvard professor Harvey Mansfield argued, fosters pursuit of truth. Can a university truly thrive without open exchanges of ideas?
On NewsNation, I discussed Republicans rolling out a new strategy encouraging early voting. The party's previous lack of early voting training created significant disadvantages in the post-COVID age. This new approach is crucial to ensure Republicans engage more proactively in early voting and eliminate cavernous voter participation gaps on Election Day.
In my latest article for Christianity Today, I reflected on Father's Day and what the often commercialized holiday represents. It evokes mixed feelings for me due to an abusive childhood. However, as I detail in my memoir Motorhome Prophecies, with time and growing faith, I was able to forgive my father and wish him healing.
In a recent interview with The Daily Signal, the media outlet newly spun off from The Heritage Foundation, I shared childhood memories from my memoir Motorhome Prophecies. This included frequent moves among 17 public schools and home school and poor living conditions, including tents and sheds without running water. Despite facing family abuse, including an attempted rape, I’m grateful my faith in God helped restored my mental health.
Our advocacy for mental health at Healthy Faith at United Charitable led us to create The Bible + Mental Health event June 12th at Museum of the Bible. We engaged with a phenomenal group of scholars, clergy, and healthcare professionals, including from Baylor College of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Catholic University, Liberty University and more. We discussed compelling scientific data demonstrating strong links between faith and robust mental health. Read more about our gathering here.
