CNN Opinion: Biden's State of the Union Blunder
Biden gave a cynical, partisan campaign stump speech
Greetings and Happy Friday,
Sharing with you my latest opinion piece for CNN, part of a group debate roundup. In last night’s State of the Union address, President Joe Biden missed an opportunity to deliver a message of hope, unity, and substance to the American people. Instead, his speech sounded like a campaign rally, with little substance.
As Americans continue to navigate these challenging times, we need positive leadership, like our Hope Agenda at Independent Women’s voice, that helps us work together toward a brighter future. Unfortunately, the President's State of the Union address fell short of that mark.
Biden also frequently distorted his predecessor’s record, for example, failing to mention that former President Donald Trump’s critique of NATO countries centered on allies’ failures to pay their committed 2% share of gross domestic product on defense spending. Biden fixated on wealthy US families paying “their fair share” in taxes without holding foreign NATO countries accountable for their fair defense share. This is typical, tone-deaf, America-last rhetoric.
