Albert Camus had it right about Autumn. Hope yours is lovely.
September was a bustling month; as November elections quickly approach, my article asking “Are you better off today than two years ago?” was shared by GOP Arizona Gov. nominee Kari Lake’s War Room. I joined Newsmax TV Live coverage for the Donald Trump/J.D. Vance Ohio rally and raised concerns about President Biden using our Strategic Petroleum Reserve to win elections. For NBC News Opinion, I disagreed with the timing of Sen. Lindsey Graham’s federal 15-week abortion ban. While I agree with it in substance, I believe he needs a better rollout strategy.
For The Daily Wire’s Morning Wire podcast, I interviewed former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo about the pending Iranian nuclear deal.
For Newsmax Magazine, I looked at the negative effects of our tax policies on marriages among low-income families, especially among single women. The Federal Reserve of Atlanta recently highlighted this so-called “marriage tax” or marriage penalty.
California continues to struggle. My article on problems with California’s assault on the fast food industry was shared by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ spokeswoman. My article on how Gavin Newsom is turning parts of California into a third-world country was shared by former CA gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder.
In matters of faith, for The Daily Wire I responded to a long-form article by WashPost columnist Michael Gerson, who attacked conservative evangelicals in a manner that I believe is untrue. For The Washington Times, I also raised concerns about a pastor with the Anglican Church in North America who has praised dangerous and divisive critical race theory.
On the personal front, as announced last month in Publishers Marketplace, I just signed with Hachette for a book coming out next year. It's a memoir, on rising above my childhood of severe poverty, time on welfare, extreme mental, physical and sexual abuse, and finding Christianity after 12 years in agnosticism. I hope it encourages and uplifts others; I told some of the story here and here online, in earlier this year in The New York Post.
Lastly, we keep in prayer Florida, the Carolinas and all others harmed by the hurricane season, especially Puerto Rico, which recently took a painful hit from Hurricane Fiona. I chipped to help support rebuilding the businesses that sustain life for Puerto Ricans with The National Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce, Inc. I’m grateful to my friend and former colleague Gustavo Portela for the recommendation. Gustavo sits on the board for the Chamber, and his organization is doing important work. If you’d like to help out as well, please donate here. I know they’d be grateful, and thanks for your consideration.
Blessings,
Carrie Sheffield
