My name is Carrie Sheffield, and I’m passionate about freedom. Freedom for individuals and for nations. I also believe in the responsibility to love and care for ourselves and those around us.

I grew up with seven biological siblings in motorhomes, sheds, tents and houses. My mom gave birth to a brother when our family lived in a tent, and I took my ACT exam when we lived in a shed in the Ozarks with no running water. I attended 17 public schools and home school before graduating high school. Hachette Publishing released my memoir, Motorhome Prophecies: A Journey of Healing and Forgiveness, on March 12, 2024. Read a summary about the book’s launch here.

Motorhome Prophecies is about how I recovered from my abusive childhood of poverty, religious cult brainwashing, welfare and sexual abuse and found Christianity after many years as a bitter agnostic. In an age with soaring rates of depression and mental illness, I hope it empowers others to integrate healthy spirituality in their mental healthcare.

I’m also a Senior Policy Analyst at Independent Women’s Forum, where I analyze economic and healthcare policy. I earned a master’s in public policy from Harvard University, concentrating in business policy and a B.A. with honors in communications at Brigham Young University and completed a Fulbright fellowship in Berlin. I managed municipal credit risk at Goldman Sachs and served as lead analyst on a $5 billion portfolio of healthcare bonds at Moody’s Investors Service. I later researched for American Enterprise Institute economics scholar Edward Conard and served as Warren Brookes Journalism Fellow at Competitive Enterprise Institute. While serving as executive director for Generation Opportunity, a project of Americans For Prosperity, I spoke at the U.S. Senate alongside key senators in favor of landmark tax reforms passed by Congress in 2017.
